#BoatLife #Sailing #Refit
Let the boat work begin! And, the first item of business…transportation, aka the dinghy, aka Minion.
Our poor dinghy has become a mold factory sitting underneath our sailboat for the past year. And our engine has been attached the whole time. Not ideal to say the least. She is going to need a lot of work to bring her back to life. Luckily, our enthusiasm to (finally) be home and get our boat back in her natural element (floating on water) is providing us with a lot of motivation.
WHO ARE WE?
We’re Jason and Nikki Wynn. We been living #OffTheGrid and exploring the world for 10 years.
Our first six years of #travel were an epic road trip around North America.
Now we’re on a #sailing voyage about the world. Did we have any previous sailing experience, of course not!
Neither of us is overly talented, smart, rich, lucky, or retired. But that doesn’t stop us from reaching far-flung destinations, having wild #adventures and managing everything that makes living aboard a moving vessel possible.
We’re two ordinary people that just so happen to live an extraordinary life. We share in hopes of inspiring you to find your adventure.

  • I know it’s a _loooong_ video…but poor Minion was in terrible shape and our little outboard needed some professional help. Plus, there’s always the distraction of #BoatLife throwing a water leak in here and there 😱 If there’s something special from the vid you want to know more about, or if you have some tips for Inflatable Dinghy Cleaning and Outboard Motor Maintenance, we’re all ears. Share below and it not only helps us, but sends good vibes through the community. As always Nikki’s prepared a post on our website if you want links, additional thoughts and stories: www.gonewiththewynns.com/boat-back-to-life A special shout-out to our Patreon’s and the peeps that support our productions through our Tip Jar: www.gonewiththewynns.com/join-us You help keep these videos flowin, and for that we 💘 you! Cheers Everyone, we’ll see you next Sunday-Video-Funday 🍻

    • I would say a good 20 hours to just cleaning the dingning, plus 4hours to service the motor. So 25 hours as a average to complete the job, Now you can take a average on cleaning up your big boat, 6 X 25 = 150 hours, to clean your boat, to get her sea ready, but you never get it all, there are hoses, sails , many things that you cant fix on shore. I know these things, I use to be a detail man for a yacht company a long time ago. And that is 2 people working 10 hour days.

  • 1. When shopping for an oil pump find one you like then triple the price and that is the cheapest type you should consider buying because they all suck and will always disappoint. 2. Before performing any type of oil change make sure you can remove the fill cap/bolt first so that way if there is a problem you won't find yourself stranded or stuck with a motor that won't work in an emergency.

  • Why wouldn't you fill the outboard's lower unit oil from the top fitting? Lower plug for draining, top for fill.

    Mike ReavesMike ReavesMuaj më parë
    • Because filling from the top can introduce air bubbles and so Yamaha says fill it from the bottom.

Use The liquid Detergent in a Bucket With water Spread on The area Then pour Comet powder And scrub It and it will do a good job Good luck On your next project

  • You got the oil fill procedure down quite well, just tighten the upper plug before you remove the hose and you should loose a bit less. You’re also missing the straw that goes on the bottom of the pump. Another tip, those straws are usually quite long to fit som huge containers I’ve never seen, so make sure to shorten them or otherwise they’ll kink and you will have the same problem as you just did. I’m also not sure on that size of outboard, but the larger ones I work on usually have a drain plug for the motor oil as well, which makes draining it a bit more efficient, as you get out any potential crud and water lurking at the bottom of the sump, sucking it out topside always comes with the risk of not actually sucking from the bottom.
