We’ve made it to Tonga! But, our journey back home to #Curiosity is going to be a long one. The borders are still closed and we must quarantine for 21 days before we’re set free. Crazy!
Regardless of our negative Covid-19 tests, all passengers from the #repatriation flight are being treated and held in quarantine as if we have the virus. It feels extreme but we also understand. Viruses on these small, underdeveloped, and very remote islands are devastating. So, the Tongan Government is taking every precaution...and then some.
We’ve landed on the main island of Nuku'alofa where we’ll stay for our 21 days of government monitored quarantine. Then we catch a cargo ship to Vava’u Tonga to see Curiosity for the first time in a year! I still have to pinch myself every time I say it because it seems too good to be true: We're Finally Home!
WHO ARE WE?
We’re Jason and Nikki Wynn. We been living #OffTheGrid and exploring the world for 10 years.
Our first six years of #travel were an epic road trip around North America.
Now we’re on a #sailing voyage about the world. Did we have any previous sailing experience, of course not!
Neither of us is overly talented, smart, rich, lucky, or retired. But that doesn’t stop us from reaching far-flung destinations, having wild #adventures and managing everything that makes living aboard a moving vessel possible.
We’re two ordinary people that just so happen to live an extraordinary life.
And this is why we publish our lives on the world wide web. We share in hopes of inspiring you to find your adventure.

  • I could literally feel your heart's beating as that ferry docked. What a journey, I bet you could have slept for a week. Poor boat she had thought you'd left her for good. Looking forward to the ugly duckling becoming a swan again.

I love boating and am always looking for a way to get more time at sea. unfortunately, I will have to dock for a while, I am needing some good security, and I was curious about what you would suggest. I am leaning towards www.gostglobal.com/ . Thoughts?

  • Wow, what a journey they have been through! Their always positive attitude is awesome to see and their infinite patience is something to be admired. Their content and videos are worthy of any show on 'network television' these days and we look always look forward to seeing them. Fortunately, the pandemic is closer to the end than the beginning and nowhere near as deadly for most as originally thought. I suspect they will be back at the helm very soon ....

But now when you are back where you should be and I will have something to look forward to on the sundays afternoons (Swedish time). Make sure that you enjoy Tonga between the scrubs, don’t wear yourself out. Regards, Krister.

  • So I just had an epiphany; Jason mentioned that you got back to Curiousity just a year after leaving it, which was in part, at least, because of the then impending hurricane season. Then I saw Keith from Zatara calling his insurance company to get a rider for hurricane season, because they can't make to to a major port before the season starts. Does that mean that you two are now "stuck" in Tonga with a beached boat that needs repair through hurricane season?

    • Cyclone season does start Nov. 1. Nikki & Jason have already talked to their insurance company and they have lots of local friends in Tonga who can advise them on where to tuck up in the event of a blow. It is the risk you take sailing anywhere the water is warm. Curious Minion

  • I get the CLEANING part. What there no seeing is 12 months of rot. In the lines. Even the sail rolled up for 12 month. There a very big chance first big winds the sails will blow out and tear. They should suck it up. Do a go FUND video. They can clean all day long. Motor s that sit for 12 month in that climate will condensate in the valves. The hoses for the motor just sitting that long can burst also. Mattress will have mold inside. My first sailing yacht was 174 feet. I'm not guessing. 12 months Tonga, heat, 90% dew point. Rain rain . Couldn't have been a worse place to leave a sailing yacht for a year. Yes I know the virus is to blame. I only want them to be safe. There may even be a INSURANCE clame there.

Frank SmithFrank Smith6 muaj më parë
    • @charles harper yes your right... but there maybe a loop hole in the insurance. The world PANDIC is the reason the owners could not tend to there yacht. Been in a world wode lock down is not WEAR and tear. Yes fiber glass can be made shiny. I'd take a thousand of photos before I cleaned anything. Also what the two kid are missing is the fuel tanks should be flushed they will have alot of water in them from the sweating in the fuel tanks. The whole fuel line system should be FLUSHED. All fuel filter should be changed out. Also the portable water is bad. The water tanks have to be drained flushed. Cleaned with sanitizer for water tanks. Then the whole water lines have to be flushed also. Let to dry... blowing forced air thru them..killing ALL BIO germ s. The sails may be saved but should be sowed top to bottom with new thread. Sewing sails, the thread has so many years life span.. leave a sail rolled up on the tropic.. All bets are off. First stress, under big winds. The sails will RIP apart... and that sucks at sea. I charter one of my sailing yacht to the famous rich (ass holes). We Earned what can go wrong fast...one little bee, ouch, pop singer,...ran off owning the LLC 450.000k. She sings in Vegas now. Brit, yup. Good call , on the shine..many shiny bright yachts sink.

Frank SmithFrank Smith6 muaj më parë
    • You can't claim insurance for wear and tear. They should have their sail and sheets down...but you'd be amazed how fast a fibreglass boat cleans up. The big problems should be mould...looking forward to seeing how bad it is.

    • Wrong @charles harper, it wasn't getting "too difficult to travel with them." It was becoming dangerous to the cats' health to continue to travel with them, and each new country means more bloodwork and shots and that isn't fun for the cats. Many Pacific island nations don't even have vets, so it would be impossible to get care for them. Cleo was 19 with advanced kidney disease: what if she took a downturn while they were making a long passage? That would have left them in an awful situation to either end her life (without benefit of drugs to ease her transition) themselves or to let her suffer. They did what was best for the cats. @Russ here's the video where they say goodbye to the cats: www.gonewiththewynns.com/sailing-pets-goodbye 😥 Spoiler alert: Singa is super happy with his new family and even has a girlfriend! • I'm so glad you're back on your boat. I'd say it's no booze because when people get liquored up, they do dumb things, (not you guys! ;)) like leave their room and if one would do it, all must be stopped. Just a guess! Looking forward to your next video! Curiosity will be so glad you're back too to look after her. Sail on Mateys.

  • I'm so happy you made it back to your floating house. So sorry you have to go through all the new, things you did before, you done before you left. Man that sucks. But I know your just happy to be back on your floating home. Yeah!!..... Oh heck. You'll have it all back in ship shape before we even know it. Y'all put your heads down & work @ it & wham....... it's fixed like new. Y'all really get down to it. And y'all know we what to see it, @ all stages of its life. Y'all are amazing story tellers. But hey we understand if you don't want to tell us about it, I totally understand if you skip a few days of no filming. I totally get it. You know what would be great? If y'all put together a like mini documentary about your struggles to get back to your boat durning this dang COVID-19 virus. Like an extra "Special report" on COVID-19 VIRUS, the struggles of our lives & if it was for the virus we wouldn't of meet the people if it hadn't been for this virus. I can see the video playing in my head right this moment. Oh how freaky. I can even hear/see y'alls style playing in my brain. Now that's wild. Think about it. I think others would like it to. Well I'm excited to see the videos, just more excited, y'all be safe, God bless y'all, & welcome home, Chris from Missouri
